Song Precious Child (Karen Taylor-Good)
by Inga Ohlsen
A song which has touched me so deeply from the very first time I have heard it until now is "Precious Child" by Karen Taylor-Good. It is sung with so much heart and truthfulness that it makes me shed a tear every time I listen to it. Therefore I highly recommend you to save your listening experience for a moment when you have some quiet time for yourself and give space for what might come up while listening.
On her Homepage, Karen Taylor-Good writes about this song:
“I wrote this song to honor my nephew Paul, who ‘left too soon,’ at age 21. I’m honored that it has been adopted by The Compassionate Friends, The Shaken Baby Alliance, and other groups and individuals. Please feel free to use it at a memorial service, or on a website honoring your ‘Precious Child.‘”
You can listen to the song on here on YouToube. If you wish, you can also download the song on Karen and Stowe's Homepage - there is also an instrumental version. Thank you so much, dear Karen - this song is a blessing beyong words!
Below the lyrics you can listen to a version sung by myself in a church for the online candle lighting day. It is a live recording sung in one peace without any editing or much time to rehearse - not perfect vocally, but sung from my heart!
Karen and Stowe Dailey share also some of the background story on how this special piece of music came into being. Karen heard the music in her head, which had never happened before. It is no wonder this song touches a place so deep inside and can make us feel our heart connection with our loved ones.
Precious Child
In my dreams, you are alive and well
Precious child, precious child
In my mind, I see you clear as a bell
Precious child, precious child
In my soul, there is a hole
That can never be filled
But in my heart, there is hope
'Cause you are with me still
[chorus]
In my heart, you live on, always there never gone
Precious child, you left too soon
Tho' it may be true that we're apart
You will live forever in my heart
In my plans, I was the first to leave
Precious child, precious child
But in this world, I was left here to grieve
Precious child, my precious child
In my soul, there is a hole
That can never be filled
But in my heart there is hope
And you are with me still
[chorus]
God knows I want to hold you
See you, touch you and maybe there's a heaven
And someday I will again
Please know you are not forgotten until then
[chorus]
